  • The shelter is activated on severe weather nights from October 1st through April 30th

  • Activated when temperatures are expected to reach 20° or below with no active moisture, or 32° or below with active moisture.

  • Temperature and moisture must be projected for 3 hours or more during the overnight hours from 6 pm to 6 am.

  • Moisture is defined as predicted rain or snowfall. It may not include previously fallen moisture remaining on the ground

Timeline on Shelter Nights

  • HAAT Force will make the weather decision daily between 8 am and 9 am

    • Decisions made on all 7 days of the week

    • Can be determined for up to 3 days

  • The decision will be recorded on the hotline by 9 am (720-483-7864)

  • Clients will call the hotline daily at 9 am to get the weather determination.

    • Clients who have already registered with HAAT Force can start lining up at 8am and their doors open at 10am for clients to receive motel vouchers. Motel vouchers are issued on a first come first served basis until they reach maximum capacity (40 rooms total).

    • Reservations for unregistered clients begin from 1 pm to 2 pm only if rooms are still available.

  • Unhoused people who aren't able to get a motel voucher are referred to Movement5280 for our Overflow Shelter. Guests can call their hotline number 720-295-9765 with any questions they have. If they don't have any questions, guests can start lining up at 5:30pm and the doors open at 6pm for guests to check in. The doors close for the night at 9pm. A few things to know about the Overflow Shelter at Movement 5280 - it is congregate shelter, their maximum capacity is 45 people, well-behaved dogs and cats are welcome, dinner is provided, they have limited capacity for large families (dependant upon space available), and all guests must leave the following morning at 7am but are welcome to return the following night as long as they haven't been banned or trespassed and as long as the Overflow Shelter is open the following night.
